Every generation of WWE Superstars produces a Megastar. A Megastar is one who is captivating, makes fans spend there money to see; and has the crossed over to mainstream media. You may not watch wrestling, but you know who that guy is.
There was Bruno Sammartino, Ric Flair, Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Macho Man Randy Savage, Sting, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, Undertaker, Mick Foley, John Cena, Randy Orton, and Daniel Bryan.
Now of course some will disagree when it comes to the list, but the point is these guys have gone beyond the ring to make themselves into a household name. When I watch WWE Programming, one wrestler who stands out is Seth Rollins. He has the “It-Factor”
During the spring of 2011, while on NXT, Seth Rollins made a bold statement. He said, “I can be the face of the company.” He also made many attempts to get on the main roster, but was told he was not ready.
Survivor Series 2012, Rollins finally got his chance. During the main event that featured CM Punk, John Cena and Ryback, three men dressed in black attacked Cena and Ryback during the match allowing Punk to retain the title. This group collectively would be known as the Shield. The Shield was comprised of Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, and Dean Ambrose.
The Shield took the WWE by storm, destroying everyone in their path. Throughout these times, it was Seth Rollins who was taking the biggest risk during the match. Below is a clip of an interview that Rollins and Ambrose did at a local news station and you could see that two were really comfortable. (Ambrose is also a Megastar in the making but thats for a different time)
In June 2014, Rollins career would skyrocket. He turned on his best friends and bought in. Seth Rollins aligned himself with Triple H and the Authority. At the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Rollins retrieved the briefcase to ensure himself an opportunity to cash in and receive a title shot.
As we see, Rollins career has progressed very well, and he is still on the rise. Recently, he called out Jon Stewart, the host of the Daily Show. Stewart retaliated and called out Rollins. Rollins seizing the opportunity has found his way to keep his name relevant as this segment has been picked up by many major media outlets, and now they know the name Seth Rollins.
As we get closer to WrestleMania, Rollins still has the briefcase and is calculating a time in which he will cash in and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The wrestling for Rollins has always been there. But every week, we are starting to see his personality develop and he is becoming must see television. What better way to become a megastar than to have media outlets saying, “Seth Rollins, the guy who Jon Stewart kicked below the belt, recently became the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.”
